Halloween Playlist

Tomorrow is Halloween - my favorite holiday!  To help get in the spirit, I have a Halloween playlist on my iPod.  I listen to all of these songs all throughout the year, but having them all on a themed playlist helps me really get in the mood.  The songs were chosen based on the mood of the song and/or the title.  I thought I would share it today, in case you're looking for some good music to get you in the spirit.

1.  Thriller - Michael Jackson
*Seriously, this cannot NOT be on the list.  I remember when this song and video came out on MTV and how awesome it was back then.  And it's still awesome today.  I still love this song!

2.  Somebody's Watching Me - Rockwell featuring Michael Jackson
3.  Little Red Riding Hood - The Coasters
*This is pretty much my theme for this year.  :)
4.  Bad Moon Rising - Creedence Clearwater Revival
5.  Psycho Killer - Talking Heads
6.  Calling All Skeletons - Alkaline Trio
7.  Love Love, Kiss Kiss - Alkaline Trio
8.  Burn - Alkaline Trio
9.  Deathbed - Alkaline Trio
10.  Sadie - Alkaline Trio
11.  Your Neck - Alkaline Trio
12.  Private Eye - Alkaline Trio
13.  This Could Be Love -  Alkaline Trio
*You can pretty much pick any Alkaline Trio song as they are on the macabre side, but these are my favorites.
14.  Stiff Kittens - Blaqk Audio
15.  Greedy Fly - Bush
16.  Zombie - The Cranberries
17.  The Little Things - Danny Elfman
18.  Use You - Dave Gahan
19.  Change (In the House of Flies) - Deftones
20.  Martyr - Depeche Mode
21.  The Dead of Night - Depeche Mode
22.  Ghost - Depeche Mode
23.  Oh Well - Depeche Mode
*I have to include some Depeche Mode since they're my all-time favorite band.  Quite a bit of their music is pretty moody, so they are good fit on this playlist.
24.  People Are Strange - The Doors
25.  Hungry Like the Wolf - Duran Duran
26.  The Killing Moon - Echo & The Bunnymen
27.  Monsters - Hurricane Bells
28.  Devil Inside - INXS

30.  Original Sin - INXS
31.  Devil's Party - INXS
32.  Love Will Tear Us Apart - Joy Division
33.  Personal Jesus - Marilyn Manson
*Manson's version of the Depeche Mode song makes it extra, extra moody
34.  Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) - Marilyn Manson
*Manson's version of the Eurythmics song makes it extra, extra, extra moody
35.  This is Halloween - Marilyn Manson
*Manson's version of the "Nightmare Before Christmas" song.  Need I say more?
36.  Suedehead - Morrissey
37.  Hairdresser On Fire - Morrissey

48.  The Ghost In You - The Psychedelic Furs
49.  Bodysnatchers - Radiohead
50.  Love Is The Drug - Roxy Music
51.  I Am An Anarchist - Sex Pistols
52.  Out of Control - She Wants Revenge
53.  Ava Adore - Smashing Pumpkins
54.  Clones (We're All) - Smashing Pumpkins
55.  Eye - Smashing Pumpkins
56.  How Soon Is Now? - The Smiths
57.  Girlfriend In A Coma - The Smiths
*With a title like that, you have to include it.  Plus, it's a great song!
58.  Ghost Town - The Specials
59.  Dead And Bloated - Stone Temple Pilots
60.  Sunday Bloody Sunday - U2
61.  Death - White Lies
62.  To Lose My Life - White Lies
63.  Farewell To The Fairground - White Lies
*Gotta include something by these guys.  Their music is way moody & excellent and I love the singer's voice.

So there you have it.  There's a pretty good mix of some old-school classics, 80s, electronica, punk, and goth.  I think some White Zombie and a couple of tracks from Rocky Horror Picture Show would be great in that mix too!  What about you?  Do you have a playlist for Halloween to get you in the spirit?

  1. did we already discuss moz/the smiths? because he/they are my faaaavorite! like, ever. I have a Halloween mix cd, as this was made many moons ago, and I always listen during October. I have Marilyn manson's version of tainted love, but how did I miss his this is Halloween version?! the regular one is on my mix, of course. you know aqua, the Barbie girl people? they have an awesome song called Halloween. trust me. oh, and I also have we only come out at night by the pumpkins, something vampy about that. I put a spell on you, ghost busters. I think the only moz song I'd go with would be jack the ripper. this was fun!!
