Back Patio

I recently had this guest post on looking after your outdoor furniture during the winter months and it occurred to me that I've never really shared any of my outdoor spaces.  I've previously shared some of my flowers & plants, but not much else.  So, I snapped some pictures to share my back patio space.  It's not much and I want to completely change it, but it's low on the project list so nothing major will be happening any time soon.

For now, I've just done some sprucing up.

It started with a new BBQ cover.  I've had my BBQ for many years and it definitely gets some use.  But, the cover was very worn out and it tore in the back.

So, I finally invested in a new one.  It's not exactly the way I want to spend $30, but at the same time, it makes the area look so much better.   Also, with all the wind we get in town, it's a good investment as it helps to protect the BBQ and keeps all the dirt out.

It's hard to believe that my old cover was once the color of the new one!

I know the lantern is much too big for this table, but I keep it there for now.  The candle inside the lantern is one of those solar ones - love it!

The table & chairs do get dusty and dirty, but they're really easy to clean.  I just fill up a bucket with water and some dish soap and use a rag to wash them all down.  It works really great and the table & chairs still look good.

I bought the shades when I first got the house - in the afternoons/evenings, the sun sets on this side and it really shines through the french doors like crazy.  The shades helps to tone down the sun's rays a bit.

Oh - and have you noticed that horrid, corrugated patio cover?  And the scrollwork on the ends that hold the cover up?  Good golly, it's just bad.  I will eventually have a new patio cover or pergola put in (or maybe something that has both a cover & pergola?).

Once I'm ready to re-do the backyard, the landscaping will change also.  There's a lot of plants I'd like to get rid of and replace with plants that are more low maintenance (something like succulents or maybe some tropical looking plants - birds of paradise, banana trees).  I would also like to replace or cover the cement patio with some type of decking.  I like the look of that much better than the cement, but we'll see how that goes.  I have lots of ideas - just not ready to implement them quite yet.  But, for now, this is a decent little space to enjoy when the weather is decent.

  1. Hi, I am looking into getting a cover for our patio. I notice that your cover is not insulated. I live in Texas and am just worried that it won't stay cool enough under the uninsulated cover with the heat the way it is here. Does your patio stay cool?

    1. Hi Erica - you're correct - my patio cover isn't insulated. In the summer, it gets to be over 100 degrees here and although in that kind of weather, it's not cool under the patio, it still offers shelter from direct sunlight. I hope that helps you.
