DIY Dropcloth Dog Bed

Since Sally has become more of a fixture around here, I've been trying to incorporate her things with the decor of my house.  Although she sleeps with me on my bed, I decided to make her her own bed for when she wants a place to lounge throughout the day.

In the past, I got Sally a store-bought bed, but she didn't like it.  Since she's been staying here, I noticed that she always tries to lay on my pillow.  This a no-dog-butts-allowed zone!  So, I decided to make her own dog bed out of an old king-size pillow I wasn't using anymore.

My supplies:
*  king size pillow
*  leftover painter's drop cloth from Home Depot
*  Martha Stewart Satin acrylic paint (color: Cloud)
*  Iron-on transfer paper
*  French Dog Biscuit label from The Graphics Fairy

I started out by taking my leftover painter's drop cloth (already washed) and sewed it into an envelope pillowcase that was large enough fit the king size pillow.

I then used the french dog biscuit label graphic that I got from The Graphics Fairy and used photoshop to change it up a bit.  I deleted the picture of the dog (since Sally isn't that type of dog) and added a picture of a bone.  I then printed it (mirror image) onto iron-on transfer paper and ironed it onto the center of the new pillowcase I made (I just followed the directions that came with the iron-on transfer paper).

Using some painter's tape, I taped off sections of the pillowcase.  I had decided to paint stripes on the both ends.  No need for perfection here - I just eyeballed it.  I started with the outer, skinnier stripes.

Once the outer, skinnier stripes were dry, I laid down more tape to make a bigger stripe in between them.

Look at how cute!  And I love that I can just take it off and throw it in the wash when it gets dirty.  Easy to make and easy to clean!

It fits in really well with my decor too, so it's not an eyesore.  (Ignore the stockings - I finished this before Christmas)

Seriously, how cute is she?  Love this little girl!  I was so proud of her that she hopped on her bed as soon as I laid it down.

I was at first worried that she wouldn't use it.  As I said earlier, I made this back in December and she still lays on it all the time - she loves it!

    1. Thank you! I'm just glad she's small enough that I could use a regular king-size pillow. :)
