"Monsters Inc" Movie Day

I found out that my 4 1/2-year-old niece has never seen the Disney movie, "Monsters Inc"!  How did I find out?  I told her that I want to take her to see the new "Monsters University" movie when it comes out and my nephew then told me that she never saw the first one.  Say what?!?!?!  So, I told her that we need to have a "Monsters Inc" movie day at my house, pronto!

I ended up having her, my nephew, and our family friend's grandson over at my house for movie day and I decided to do some extra special things since it was my first time having my niece over (without my sister being here).

Prepare for a long post - there was lots goin' on!
I found these "Scarer of the Month" photo frames and printed pictures of the kids to put in them and taped them to the wall.

I also found these Monsters Inc Employee badges and taped their little pictures to it.  I just added safety pins through the back so they could wear them.  Even my 12-year-old nephew who is a bit too old for this, wore it to make it fun for his little sister.  :)

The fireplace got a bit of decorating with a bunting that I made.  I did a search for different "Monsters Inc" images and found one I liked.

Using Photoshop, I turned the 1 image into 4 separate images.  I then arranged 2 images per page so that I could print them on paper. I made sure to leave enough room above the image so that I could fold it in half over the piece of yarn.

I taught my niece the characters' names by pointing to each one.  And she also had fun naming each of the colors.  It ended up being a bonus educational tool.  Score 1 for Auntie!

My niece loves sweets, so I decided to make cupcakes since I had all the supplies already.  And since it was "Monsters Inc" movie day, I decided to attempt to make the frosting in Mike & Sully colors.   I've never used food coloring to make different frosting colors before, so it was definitely an experiment.  I just used store-bought frosting and used 1/2 the can for one color and 1/2 for the other.

I just kept adding drops of the coloring until I got the color I wanted.

For Sully, I used about 13 drops of blue and 6 drops of green.  For Mike, I used about 8 drops of green and 7 drops of yellow.   (I tried to keep track, but there may be some drops missing here and there from my numbers).  ;)

They may not be decorated all pretty, but Monsters aren't supposed to be pretty.  (I did consider decorating the green ones with Mike's one eye and the blue ones with Sully's purple spots, but I didn't really have time for all of that, but they sure would have looked cute!).

We also snacked on nachos and popcorn.  The kids really loved watching the popcorn pop in the machine.

My niece really liked the movie and I can't wait to take them to see "Monsters University" when it comes out soon.

After the movie was over, my niece picked out 2 more movies to watch:  "Aladdin" and "Meet the Robinsons".  She had never seen either of them.  I even asked her if she knew who the princess was in "Aladdin" and she had no idea!  My princess-loving-niece didn't know Princess Jasmine!  Looks like I'll have to have them over for more movie days!
