Pumpkin Snowman

Hello all!  I'm enjoying our cloudy weekend here - very wintery!  I did a quick Christmas craft this weekend and I must say, I'm very proud of myself for coming up with the idea.  :)

About a week before Halloween, I bought a pumpkin, but never ended up carving it.  So, I left it outside on the front porch as a fall decoration.  After Thanksgiving went by, I figured it was time to get rid of it, but I hated to just throw it out since it was still good.  And that's when it hit me!  I could turn it into a snowman's face.  It's too bad you can't really find anymore pumpkins to buy or he could have been a whole snowman!  Anyways, so I got to work and it was very easy.  Here's a quick rundown on how to do it.

Supplies needed:
*  Pumpkin(s)
*  White craft paint (I ended up using wall paint since that's what I already had out)
*  Black craft paint
*  Orange craft paint
*  Accessories (optional)

1)  Clean your pumpkin - just a quick wipe down is good to get all the dust and dirt off of it.

2)  Since I didn't have orange paint, I decided to use the pumpkin's original orange color for it's carrot nose.  I did this by painting a triangle with the white paint on the good side of the pumpkin.

3)  I then painted the entire pumpkin in white.  First coat...
Second coat...

I also decided to paint the stem white so it wouldn't stand out so much.  Also, I didn't worry about painting the very bottom since no one would see it.  I just made sure that you can't see any orange at the bottom.

4)  I then painted coal eyes & a coal smile with the black craft paint.

And that was it!  Since it was only his head, I didn't add a scarf and I didn't have a hat for him, so he will be "as is" for now.  But, I think next year, I will buy 3 different sizes of pumpkins (I think the squatty, flat kind would work best) so I can stack them on top of each other and make him into a whole snowman next year.  I can then add a scarf, hat, and twigs for arms - it would look so cute!

Here he is again one more time on the front porch.  The Santa hat tree got moved out there with him so he won't be so lonely.

Thanks for stopping by!
